Sparks: What Is The Church?
This week, children are going to learn about the body of Christ – the Church.
Children are going to go through the teachings in the Bible about the church. They’ll learn that the church is not a building, but it refers to all believers who believe Jesus is their Savior. All believers in the world form ONE body of Christ. The church belongs to Jesus and He is the head of the church.
The church’s responsibility is to do what Jesus wants the church to do – share the gospel and build up each others through God’s words and prayers. The unity of the church is important in order to build up a strong body. Therefore, we are to love each others, share each other’s burdens and work together to build each others up as we share this ONE body of Christ. As Jesus said,
“34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
T&T: Grace In Action
When we remember how much grace God gives to us, we should want to show grace to others. God’s Word tells us to do good to everyone especially those in our Christian family. Sometimes we may not feel like helping others, but the Holy Spirit can make us willing and strong to help others. Use the following questions below to continue the conversation with your child.
1. Who should we help? Why is it important to help others in our Christian family?
2. Tell a story: Describe a time when you went out of your way to help another person or family. Why did you do it? Why is it important to pay more attention to the needs of others.
3. What are some specific ways we can help others or another family this week?
